show more dishes on menu. The old town of Rakalj is the closest to the see but today it is mainly uninhabited. In that part there are ruins of the old castle and the church of St. Agnes to be found. The church is situated on the top of the hill offering magnificent view at the see. There are no regular Sunday Masses in the church accept on several traditional occasion a year. There are also wedding ceremonies in the St Agnes church. Couples come from nearby smaller towns as well as from bigger cities. At the site where the old middle age castle used to be the remains of the prehistoric hill-fort are found as well as remains of Roman fort. The castle itself was probably built at the beginning of the 11th century and was later known as Castellare de Rachir. In 1535 the Istrien VillaVenetians granted the Old Rakalj and the New Rakalj to the Loredan family but the castle was in such a bad condition that Loredans abandoned it and moved to today Rakalj.
For more extensive shopping there is – a town with more than 3000 years history, with the most preserved amphitheater in Europe and many other monuments from the ancient Rome period.
