The surrounding Konvle region offers plenty: besides the clear sea, the untouched nature and the beauties of Dubrovnik, one can visit the historical fortress of Sokol-grad ar the antique city of Cavtat; enjoy the gastronomical experience of the local cuisine, like eating eels at Konavoski Dvori in the Gruda village; find the hidden Pasjača beach; maybe visit the neighbouring countries Montenegro and Bosnia&Herzegovina, the borders are only kilometers away. Konavle are a unique place where 3 religious cultures live peacfully next to each other: Christianity, the eastern orthodoxy and Islam.
The crown jewel of the region is the famous city of Dubrovnik, with its huge fortified walls, white stone houses with red rooftops, all in perfect order, as well as many churches and monuments. Dubrovnik was a powerful city-state in Medieval ages and the New age, a rich commercial centre connecting the east and west. It invested a lot of its riches into the architectural stone marvel which survived until today. The Lonely Planet lists Dubrovnik as one of 25 places in the world one simply must visit.
